About

OK, let's shift to English over here.

So, what's this blog about?

It's an archive of news digests sent out three times a week. These news digests follow RSS feeds of various Russian media outlets and republish the latest news published by those outlets in two versions: in Russian (original), and English (with headlines translated purely with Google Translate).

The list is mostly based on Redkollegia's journalism top picks, and, well, some of my personal preferences. Redkollegia (lit. editorial board) is an award which aims to support independent professional journalism in Russia. I'm by no means affiliated with the board but thanks to them, I've discovered media outlets with lots of high-quality journalistic content I'd otherwise never have heard of.

You can check out the full media list on this google sheet. I'd be most happy to add any of your suggestions.

These are the digests that are sent out to the world:

 - Чё там в России? What's up in Russia? hits the internet on Monday
 - Чё там в Европейской России? What's up in European Russia? lands on Wednesday
 - Чё там в Сибири и Дальнем Востоке? What's up in Siberia and the Far East? comes on Friday

I guess you wonder, who's behind all this?

I'm Veronica Snoj, I'm an Argentinian-Slovenian journalist, now living and working in Poland. I'm also a Russian Studies graduate who finds Russia inexplicably fascinating.

This project is a result of my years-long interest in the largest country in the world and my very new and clumsy coding attempts. Its goal was to spare me some time to open the websites of all Russian media outlets I'd like to follow. During my coding struggles, however, I also realized it might also be a useful resource for anyone studying or learning Russian.

You can find the code in my github repository. You're most welcome to use it yourself and adapt it to your needs. If you know how to fetch YouTube channels or podcasts or turbo Yandex feeds or you have an idea how to follow websites with an RSS which is tough to find, please give me a shout!

You can also start following this little Twitter bot which tweets whenever a new digest sees the world or subscribe to get notifications via email.
